I'm not a great singer, but to me harmony parts are just part of orchestrating a larger piece of music. They just couldn't hear it, even easy stuff like "you sing lead, you go up, I'm going under" (who was it who characterized CSN as "white guys singing in thirds" LOL). Whole lot of truth here, but no answer to the main question: do they sing in unison 100% of the time with no ability to sing harmony, even when harmony is called for? That would drive me nuts.
